TUITIONI am available for lessons, clinics or training days, lecture-demonstrations and management consultations and classes in Lancashire and surrounding counties. Lessons Please email or 'phone me if you are interested in riding and/or schooling tuition for flatwork or jumping. If you need to leave a message, give a landline number and I'll return your call promptly. I give private or shared lessons (two riders), and can give group lessons (up to four riders) for those experienced in the techniques I teach. However, it is best to have a few private lessons first, if at all possible. My priorities in teaching are safety and horse welfare. My lessons are often described as unusual in that I do not drive or drill horses and riders relentlessly round the school for most of the lesson, or at all. That is a sure-fire way to sicken horses and people and is neither kind nor effective. If you or your horse are not particularly fit it doesn't matter. A great deal of valuable work can be done in walk which is a very under-rated schooling gait. Horses learn best when they are not stressed so, in all gaits, I give frequent relaxation and discussion breaks between spells of work. All I expect is that your horse is sound and healthy, has no pain or discomfort, and has comfortable tack in safe condition. As a rider, you need to be open-minded and to have the interests of your horse at heart. For safety, you must wear a hard hat up to the latest safety standards and strong shoes or riding/jodphur boots with a heel - no trainers (even riding trainers), ordinary shoes, walking boots or Wellingtons. A body protector is optional but is always a good idea. Training days/clinics/lecture-demonstrations I give training days or clinics by request and can do so alone or with my colleague, Antonia Bryans (see Links). Email either of us and tell us what you want, leave a landline number, if you like, and one of us will get back to you promptly by phone or email.Charges I charge £30 per hour for a private lesson plus petrol. I do not charge mileage or travelling time but for locations over an hour's drive from Darwen, Lancashire, I need two (or more) riders to make the trip viable. For shared lessons (two riders), the cost is £25 per hour each, and for group lessons (maximum four riders) it is £20 each. I will supervise and advise at open schooling sessions for experienced riders, from three to six riders at a time depending on the size of the school, at £10 per rider. For management consultations I charge £30 per hour. Class lessons in horse care and management can also be arranged by request. Clinics/Training Days: The charges are based on the above depending on whether private, shared, group or open sessions are wanted. Lecture-demonstrations: FOR DETAILS OF FORTHCOMING CLINICS, CLICK ON 'NEWS/EVENTS'. TO DISCUSS ARRANGING A CLINIC NEAR YOU OR FOR LESSON ENQUIRIES, PLEASE EMAIL ME OR RING ME ON 01254 705487.
